Philosophy:

To provide education, motivation and direction to individuals and families on their path toward better health and wellness by providing high quality programming, service and fitness equipment.

What is Wellness?  A method to build skills and resources to help lead a BALANCED LIFE.  An intentional choice of a lifestyle characterized by personal responsibility, balance and maximum personal enhancement of physical, mental, emotional, social, psychological, occupational, and spiritual existence.

My Belief…
as a fitness professional is that everybody has a purpose in this life.  If we are fit, strong and healthy, we are better able to carry out that purpose e.g. be a more energetic mom, a more focused business man or a more motivated student.

My goal as a trainer is to meet people where they are on their path to better health and wellness and inspire them along the way.  I strive to develop an effective, efficient and safe program that offers variety and enjoyment compliments the lifestyles of my clients.  My hope and prayer is that I may be a small part of helping people of all ages live a better quality of life.

Our Story
My fitness career began in 1988 on the first day I started college at Illinois State University as an aerobics instructor.  Upon graduation I landed my first job as a front desk supervisor at the Ameritech Welllness Center in a suburb of Chicago. Looking back the reason for that job was to meet Steve Townsend, my husband.  I must say, I was first attracted when I saw him perform lat pulldowns (what a back!), but it was his character made me fall in love.
I had several jobs as a fitness professional in my time in Chicago; group fitness director and instructor, personal trainer, club manager, sales and marketing director and developer of a behavioral clinic wellness program.  It was in 1996 that Steve and I decided to move to his hometown in Michigan where he would begin farming (his passion) full-time with his father. I now needed a job and only a few months later God provided a great opportunity. I was to develop and coordinate the wellness program for River District Hospital in St. Clair. I loved it!

I went on to get my Master’s Degree in exercise science from Oakland University.  I was almost done with the program when our first child, Calli came along.  After much thought and prayer, I decided to leave my job to stay home with Calli.  However, that didn’t mean I stopped doing what I was passionate about.  I continued teaching classes and we turned our garage into a gym where I began my own personal training business. Then came child number two – Curt!  Now as an experienced mom, my passion evolved into youth fitness.  Next project - Workout with Calli’s Club- a children’s exercise video!  I took this project on as a completely independent (no experience) filmmaker.  I cast the children (Calli’s Sunday school friends), served as executive producer, choreographed, and, of course, I instructed my daughter Calli and her six adorable friends in the video. I will forever be grateful to the Calli Club moms!
It was right after the video was ready to be marketed that we were blessed with the news of baby number three!  This was going to be a challenge, but that never scared me (well maybe a little).  It was that pregnancy that landed me my first TV appearance on Peter’s Principle’s of WDIV in Detroit.  After Jake was born, I was asked to be back on the show again as a mom finding time to workout with her kids.  That day I met Sara Kooperman who then gave me the opportunity to speak nationally with SCW Fitness Education fulfilling a long time dream of speaking at fitness conferences.
My latest endeavor is the Home Fitness Collection™, which has evolved from all my experiences and my desire to help people and families on their path toward better health and wellness.  Through the years of teaching and training in small facilities with minimal resources, I have learned how to be creative with simple fitness tools.  I have also realized that people want their workouts to be simple.  Lastly I have realized that many people are too intimidated to go to a health club or a personal trainer or simply can’t afford them.  People are confused and misguided by all the outrageous health claims such as “lose 10 pounds in 10 days” or the “get the girl of your dreams workout”.  The list goes on.  My home fitness party is an innovative solution to help people take that first step toward fitness or to help take a current program to the next level.
Why do I tell you all of this?  My hope is that it inspires.  You see, I knew from the day I taught my first aerobics class that I had a passion for fitness and helping others.  My first lecture (in 1993) was entitled From the Inside Out because I knew that if people understood how their body works, they would have a greater appreciation for it and want to take care of it.   I knew then (and still do) that fitness is about more than just looking good.  It is about feeling your best and living out your purpose in life.  I am so blessed to love my work and by all my great clients.  I am thankful to have wonderful parents, family and friends who have helped me be able to fulfill my dreams and passions. I am blessed to have a loving, supportive husband and for our healthy children and all their energy.  It is my sincere desire that I can help otherson their path to better health and wellness.

Live Fit, Live Strong
